Lettergesh Beach

Lettergesh Beach, Connemara

This summer, take a stroll along the pristine white sands of Lettergesh Beach in Connemara.  Set on the edge of the scenic Renvyle Peninsula, Lettergesh offers breathtaking views across Killary Bay to the Mweelrea Mountains in County Mayo. Behind you rise the rugged peaks of Benchoona and Garraun

This expansive beach is long, wide, and beautifully unspoiled—it’s easy to see why director John Ford chose it for the iconic horse racing scene in the classic 1952 film The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.  Discover film locations more film locations on the Connemara Film Trail.

Just a 30-minute drive from Clifden, this beach boasts a long stretch of golden sand that contrasts beautifully with the crystal-clear Atlantic waters and mountains beyond.

A gravel car park right next to the beach provides easy access, though it’s worth noting that there are no public facilities (such as toilets, bins, or lifeguards). Plan accordingly for your visit and respect the area by bringing your litter home.
