The Connemara Coast stretching from Galway Bay to Killary Fjord, the Aran Islands and Inishbofin in County Galway lie at the heart of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Connemara lies west of Galway City which is well connected to both Dublin with daily bus and train services.

Connemara is linked to all Irish cities and airports by a good road network. There are two routes to Connemara from Galway City – the lake route and the coastal route. Follow signs for An Spidéal to take the coastal route which will through the Gaeltacht region of Connemara. Follow signs for Clifden to take the lake route which joins up with the mountain route.

By Bus

Bus to Galway/Bus go Gaillimh

Galway has a great bus network connecting the city with Dublin, Limerick, Galway and many more destinations. Bus Éireann, the national public bus service, departs from Ceannt Station at Eyre Square while private operators (Go Bus and City Link) depart from the Galway New Coach Station on Fairgreen Road which is a 5 minute walk from Eyre Square.

Bus to Connemara/Bus go Conamara

The Bus Éireann 424 which departs Ceannt Station Galway travels along the coast from Bearna out as far as An Cheathrú Rua several times daily. It services Leitir Mealláin three times per day and Carna once a day on Monday to Friday. Check timetable for weekends and bank holidays.

The Bus Éireann 419 also departs Ceannt Station Galway and goes along the lake route to Clifden three times daily. There is a service to Leenane from Galway once per day.

City Link operates a regular service privately from Galway New Coach station and travels to Clifden and on to Letterfrack and Cleggan twice a day.

There is a local link service Route 432  which travels from Carraroe to Clifden three times daily along the coast.

The Carraroe to Claremorris local link service Route 431 intersects with the N59 at Maam Cross.
