The Connemara Giant -Fathach Chonamara

The Connemara Giant

The large stone statute of the Connemara Giant at Recess was created by Mark Joyce of  Joyce’s Craft Shop in 1999 for ‘no apparent reason’.  Described as a  late 20th-century antiquity.

It depicts a giant bearded man crouched with a stone.  Local legend suggests that touching the Connemara Giant’s hand at Recess imparts the knowledge of his ancient tribe.

There are many stories and legends of giants in Connemara found the the School Folklore Collection.

Fathach Chonamara

Chruthaigh Mark Joyce dealbh fhathaigh Chonamara i 1999 ‘gan aon chúis dár léir dúinn’  agus ráite gur seaniarsma i ndeireadh an 20ú haois é. Fathach mór le féasóg ar a ghogaide le cloch mhór ina lámh.  Deirtear má leagan tú lámh ar lámh an fhathaigh go bhfaighidh tú fios ón sean treibh.
