The annual Inishbofin Walking Festival usually takes place in April/May but this year it is scheduled for the weekend of September 10th to 12th in the hope that things will be a little back to ‘normal’ by then!
The Walking Festival is a beautiful chance to roam Inishbofin, take in stunning Atlantic coast scenery and rich heritage, all in the company of expert guides
Registration and a talk on the Birds of Inishbofin from Anthony McGeehan will take place on Friday evening. Anthony is a bird expert, published author and photographer who has been visiting Inishbofin for many years – there’s nothing he doesn’t know about Bofin birds!
On Saturday, various walks are scheduled including a guided tour to Cromwell’s Barracks and a torchlit walk at dusk with Tommy Burke. Tommy is a historian and archaeologist who was born and bred in Inishbofin making him a rich source of information and a wonderful guide.
On Sunday there is the rare chance to take a guided trip to Inishark which was evacuated in the 1960s, Tommy will lead this tour so it will be a trip to remember!
Citylink Ireland sponsor the Walking Festival each year. They provide a direct bus connection from Galway city to Cleggan, from where the Inishbofin ferry departs. As part of our commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of our Walking Festival, we encourage all attendees to leave the car at home and travel with Citylink!
