Kylemore Abbey Heritage Week

Kylemore Abbey Heritage Week

Unveiling History at Kylemore

Kylemore Abbey Celebrates Heritage Week with New Display of Parliamentary Robes and Coronet.

The headline event will be a specialised talk on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th of August at 1PM about an exciting new display: The 9th Duke of Manchesterā€™s coronation robes and crown.

Lord Nicholas James Hodgkinson Montagu, the heir to the dukedom of Manchester, has very kindly given his familyā€™s ceremonial parliamentary robes and coronet, to Kylemore Abbey, where they will be on permanent exhibition in the Main Hall of the Abbey.

These will help bring to life the colourful and intriguing stories surrounding the 9th Duke of Manchester and his wife Helena (nƩe Zimmerman), who were the owners of the Kylemore Estate between 1903 and 1913.

Come along to listen to interesting facts all about the Duke and Duchess of Manchester and the robes and coronet that the Duke wore for King Edward VII’s coronation in 1902. Located in the Abbey Main Hall at Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden, these onsite talks for Heritage Week are complimentary with regular admission to the estate.

The Abbey provides an immersive visitor experience, where visitors can travel back in
time and learn all about Kylemoreā€™s fascinating history. Explore a 6-acre
restored Victorian Walled Garden, which is bustling with flowers, fresh herbs, and

vegetables. Visit restored garden buildings and the timeless Neo-Gothic
church. In 2021, the estate opened some new trails called the Kylemore Woodland Tales &
Trails. The trails take visitors through previously unseen pastures and woodlands into the
heart of the 1000-acre estate.
