Reviving the Sound of the Irish Castle – An Event for National Harp Day! Lá na Cruite
Don’t miss this Harp recital on Saturday, October 19th to celebrate 50 years of Aughnanure Castle being open to the public!
Admission to the event is free and all are welcome! Please reserve your space by emailing aughnanurecastle@opw.ie due to limited spaces available.
Aughnanure Castle have collaborated with Natalie Surina of Ériú Harps to bring the tradition of ancient Irish harp playing back to the medieval Irish castle.
The ancient Irish harp, with its elaborate decoration and otherworldly sound of its metal strings, was a high status instrument. It was played to please ears of kings and chieftains in medieval Ireland. Explore the fascinating world of the old Irish harp with Nathalie.
Come along to hear the bell-like sound of the oldest harp in the country. Discover how ancient Irish harps were made without a single drop of glue. Learn about the history of our national emblem. Take the opportunity to try and play a tune yourself!
This is a rare opportunity to hear the sound of the ancient Irish harp in its original setting and see one in the making.
Join us for an afternoon filled with music and history from 2-4pm
