“Connemara Dark Skies in the Bronze Age” Lecture by Archaelogist Michael Gibbons April 14th

Connemara Dark Skies Lecture Event

Connemara Dark Skies invites you to a public lecture, “Connemara Dark Skies in the Bronze Age,” by archaeologist Michael Gibbons

The talk will take place on Tuesday, 14 April, 7 pm at the Notre Dame University Global Centre in Kylemore, Connemara as part of International Dark Sky Week.

Michael Gibbons will explore archaeological discoveries across Connemara and Mayo.  He will focus in particular on stone alignments and standing stones and their orientation toward the positions of the Sun and the Moon. Drawing on archaeological evidence, he will discuss how these monuments may have been used by communities during the Bronze Age. He will discuss what they reveal about the relationship between people, landscape and the night sky in ancient Ireland.

The evening will also include a presentation of the new Connemara Dark Skies website.

Tea and coffee will be available.
