Culture Night in Connemara and the Islands

The sixteenth edition of Culture Night will take place on Friday 17 September 2021.

Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the Arts Council; it is a national moment, celebrating all that makes up the richness and diversity of culture in Ireland today, connecting people to cultural activities locally and nationally and aims to open up pathways to ongoing engagement.

Cuideoidh taispeáintas grianghraf le Cormac Coyne agus seisiún le ceoltóirí áitiúla ón oileán le Áras Éanna Ionad Ealaíne a 21ú breithlá a cheiliúradh le Oíche Chultúir speisialta ar Inis Oirr.
Beidh Caisleán Uí Bhriain lasta suas le iomhanna de ghriangreafannai Cormac Coyne le imeachtaí éagsúla a léirigh Áras Éanna thar na blianta (9in go meán oíche).
Glacfaidh ceoltóirí páirt i seisiún lasmuigh den chaisleán a sruthóidh Áras Éanna “beo” ar a leathanach Facebook (9in go 10in).

A display of photographs by Cormac Coyne and a session by local musicians from the island will help Áras Éanna Ionad Ealaíne celebrate its 21st birthday with a special Culture Night on Inis Oirr.
The beautiful setting of O’Brien’s Castle will provide the backdrop for the projection of photos by Cormac will display events which have been hosted by Áras Éanna down through the years (9pm to midnight).
Musicians will take part in a session on the castle grounds which Áras Éanna will stream “live” on their Facebook page (9pm to 10pm).

Drumming and musical workshop for all ages during the day, followed by some group crafting, and finishing with a local trad session in the evening.

Curracha: Artists currachs at The Quad

If you missed the fabulous currach exhibition on Inis Oírr this summer now is your chance to catch it in NUI Galway this Friday on Culture Night.
Dive in to an informal outdoor tour by artist Dolores Lyne, of 21 stunning bespoke painted currach sculptures commissioned to celebrate 21 years of Áras Éanna,the Inis Óirr Arts Centre on The Aran Islands, showing in the quadrangle of NUI Galway.

The artists featured are John Behan, Jay Murphy, Mick O’Dea, Kathleen Furey, Seán Ó Flaithearta, Dolores Lyne, Ger Sweeney, Dara McGee, Áine Phillips, Alannah Robins, Breda Burns, Tom Meskell, Sadia Shoaib, Seán Cathal Ó Coileán, Deirdre Mc Kenna, Naoise Sheridan, Jennifer Cunningham, Tim Acheson, Daniel Coleman and Cathal Mc Ginley.

Clonbur le Chéile – sa Choill!

Experience Clonbur Woods in a new and magical way, where voices and music can be heard in unexpected places.

Install the free Echoes sound walk app and look for ‘Clonbur le Chéile’ or find it in the map view. Tap ‘Download’ to put the audio onto your phone before you head to the start of the walk, which begins at the playground entrance to the woods, by Burkes’ Garage in Clonbur (F12 XD35).

All the sounds are on the main path. When one sound finishes, keep walking to find the next one. The walk finishes at a clearing with two picnic benches just before Ballykine Castle, about 25 mins’ walk in. Earphones or headphones essential!
