Rosmuc DNA & Genealogy delighted to invite you to the 7th Annual International Connemara Genealogy Gathering, a weekend celebrating the people, history, genealogy and heritage of Connemara.
Whether you are tracing your Connemara ancestors, exploring your DNA connections, or simply have a love of local history, this promises to be an enjoyable and informative weekend with something for everyone.
The programme features internationally recognised speakers, local historians, family researchers and descendants returning to their ancestral homeland. There will also be opportunities to ask questions, receive help with genealogy and DNA research, and meet others with shared family connections.
Friday 7th August
The Gathering opens with tea and coffee before a warm Fáilte/Welcome.
Highlights include:
- Graceville – Na Connemaras i Minnesota, a documentary exploring the Connemara emigrants who settled in Graceville, Minnesota, followed by a discussion with Bridget Connelly, Bridie Uí Chonámha and Leslie Thomas.
- ‘Going Home – Ireland’ by Tracey Aoife Ní Mháille.
- Evening music and entertainment.
Saturday 8th August
Saturday offers a full programme of talks including:
- A preview of the October Galway Genealogy Conference.
- Jim Hollarn on the impact of the 1926 Census on Connemara.
- Mary Clancy on Rachel Dudley and Ros Muc.
- Jackie Ní Chionna discussing Máirtín Mór McDonagh – The Man that Made Galway.
- Martin Ó Halloran sharing Connemara stories.
Lunch is provided, and on Saturday evening those attending are invited to join us for an optional dinner at a local restaurant.
Sunday 9th August
Sunday’s programme focuses on family history and DNA:
- Larry Flaherty shares the story of his family’s journey from Connemara to Minnesota.
- Noel Murphy explains how Y-DNA is helping reconnect Flaherty, O’Loughlin and Kilkelly families.
- Jim Hollarn presents a summary of Connemara Genealogy & DNA membership results and future prospects.
- Fr Shane Sullivan reflects on his ties to Minnesota and Loughaconeera.
- The weekend concludes with a genealogy and DNA workshop where attendees can receive practical help with their own family trees and DNA results.
