(13) An Túirne -Aran Island Sweaters

Handknitting Heritage at An Tuirne (Aran Islands Sweaters)

Traditional Aran Islands Sweaters are celebrated at a family-run shop on Inis Mór, featured on the Sheep and Wool Trail

Owned by Rosemary Faherty and her husband Andrew, Aran Islands Sweaters Shop honors eight generations of family life on Inis Mór, Aran Islands, with roots tracing back to 1796.

Nestled in a thatched cottage shop in Kilmurvey village, known as An Túirne (The Spinning Wheel), the heart of the craft is handknitting — a skill passed down from great-grandmother to grandmother to mother, and now carried on by Rosemary herself. Each stitch tells a story, created from memory and imagination without written patterns.

At An Túirne, they preserve this rich tradition through authentic, traditional handknit sweaters. They also ship Traditional Aran Islands Sweaters worldwide, sharing a piece of the islands with customers around the globe.
