Trá Dhireáin /Huston

One of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Connemara  on the west coast is situated in Caladh Ghólaim. This beach is a major attraction for many local people and visitors during the summer months. It is called Trá Dhireáin (Dirrane’s Beach) but it is also called Huston’s Beach.

The film director John Huston had a holiday home here for a time. His daughter Angelica attended Kylemore Abbey. The film school in the University of Galway is named after him.  The area is a popular location for films and writer and directors brother Martin and John Michael Mc Donagh have family collections in the area.
