Take a step back in time and explore the colourful history of Connemara. Start your visit watching a film which tells the story of story of the ‘broken-hearted farmer’ Dan O’ Hara and introduces the history of #Connemara. The history room houses a collection of farm and household items and a display on Connemara through the Ages. Outside wander through the garden to explore reconstructions of a crannóg, ringfort and clochaun.
A 15 minute stroll up the hill takes you to the 19th Century home of Dan O’ Hara. Sitting beside the turf fire in the cottage or looking out of the half-door you will be transported back to life in simpler times. Walk up to the hilltop where you will be rewarded with breath-taking views of the Atlantic and the Twelve Ben Mountains and our Connemara Ponies or sheep for company.
Back at the heritage centre enjoy a welcome cup of tea and treat yourself to a slice of homemade cake or shop for souvenirs in our craft shop.
