The highlight of the summer along the coast is the traditional boat racing along the coast.  Once utilitarian boats carrying cargo such as turf  the Galway hookers are now used as leisure crafts.  The skills of boat builders and crews can be appreciated during the Summer Regattas when they compete with each other.
