Omey Heritage Event Saturday 25thĀ 2pm – 6:30pm
Discover the rich and varied history, heritage , geography and enviroment at this heritage event which takes place in CladdaghDuff Hall and with guided walks to Omey Island.

Omey’s Machair grasses, a Special Area of Conservation’ by Dermot Breen NPWS Wildlife Service Ranger.
‘Omey Island – A Corncrake Habitat’ by Patrick Fitzmaurice, Corncrake Life.
‘Foods from the Sea’ by Darwyn OāHalloran Marine Biologist & Olive Powell Butler.
‘Settlements on Omey Island’ By Bernie Doherty, Galway Community Archaeologist.
‘Arrival on Omey by Kayak’ Captain Kevin O’Sullivan
Island Tour
4pm to 6.30pm: Tour of the island visiting pastures of key animals in the lives of Omey Islanders and surrounding areas; The milking cow. Breanna Beola Droimeann, a rare and ancient Native Irish breed of cattle and the work horse; The Connemara Pony.
On the day there will also be a book stall, photographic exhibitions of Omey and Claddaghduff, food demonstrations, archaeology replica table and a special exhibition in honour of Mrs Mary Jane Sweeney, founder of Sweeney’s Store.
Archaeology, Conservation and Birdwatching sites will also be included in the tour.
